Research Interests

Our broadly-based research interests are in developmental neurobiology, neural regeneration, and demyelinating disorders of the nervous system. Our current investigative endeavours are focused on:

  • 2',3'-cyclic nucleotide 3'-phosphodiesterase (CNP), a protein that appears early in CNS development, a determinant of oligodendrocyte differentiation and maturation that entrains early stages of myelinogenesis; we seek to understand how CNP participates in these complex events, and how one might capitalize on this knowledge to enhance therapeutic remyelination in diseased CNS.
  • Molecules associated with myelin that provide a non-permissive environment for nerve re-growth in the injured CNS; therapeutic strategies to overcome these inhibitors.

We employ a combination of biochemistry, cellular neurobiology and recombinant DNA technologies to address these interests. Our recently generated transgenic mouse models facilitate these endeavours.
