The Bio-X talk will be delivered by Dr. Carla Shatz, Sapp Family Provostial Professor of Biology and Neurobiology and Director of Bio-X, Stanford's pioneering biosciences program. Her lecture, "Explaining the 鈥淴鈥� in Stanford鈥檚 Bio-X鈥� will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 12:00 pm at the McIntyre Medical Building (room 522). 聽Refreshments will follow.

Bio-X is a remarkably successful university-wide program at Stanford that could function as a model for interdisciplinary research at 91社区. Bio-X鈥檚 mission is to catalyze discovery by crossing boundaries between disciplines, to bring interdisciplinary solutions and to create new knowledge of biological systems in benefit of human health. The program involves 550 faculty members from more than 60 Stanford departments.

Dr. Carla Shatz

Carla J. Shatz, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biological Sciences and Neurobiology at Stanford University, and the Director of the Bio-X Program. Dr. Shatz has made key contributions to understanding the mechanisms that guide the formation of precise connections in the brain of higher mammals. Her work has provided an important link between the mechanisms of plasticity during development and those used later in learning and memory.
