New guidelines for managing high blood pressure and hypertension have just been released by the European Society for Cardiology (ESC), developed by an international panel of experts, including co-chair聽Dr. Rhian Touyz聽and co-author聽Dr. Stella Daskalopoulou, both Professors in the 91社区 Department of Medicine and key members of one of the department鈥檚 World Class Teams. These guidelines introduce a new category called 鈥渆levated blood pressure,鈥� set more ambitious treatment goals for patients receiving BP lowering medication, and, for the first time, suggest using a technique called renal denervation to treat certain types of hypertension.聽
