Scaling intentionally, rather than rapidly, could yield social, economic, and environmental benefits

The most successful technology companies have scaled quickly from startups to become the world’s largest companies. “The Silicon Valley formula can be great for some enterprises,” says Associate Professor Anna Kim in a piece by The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business Magazine, “but it doesn’t always have the best social, economic, and environmental impacts.” Instead, companies can choose to scale deeply and intentionally. “We’re learning there might be different ways of growing that can be healthy, sustainable, helpful, impactful, and economically viable.” In this post-pandemic, inflation-ravaged, natural disaster–laden moment, it seems more entrepreneurs are open to alternatives.
