Mentors in Memoriam: Mr. Joseph A. Hackett
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the untimely passing of Mr. Joseph A. Hackett. Joe had a long career as a school teacher and, since retirement, had been working as a student teaching Field Supervisor for our Faculty for more than 15 years. He was also previously a Course Lecturer with the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE). Joe leaves behind a significant and impressive legacy of mentorship, having supported hundreds of students and future teachers. He was a beloved colleague of the Internships & Student Affairs Office, appreciated by staff and his fellow Field Supervisors.
This kind message we received last year from a student teacher speaks volumes and reflects the care that Joe put into his work: “My supervisor, Joseph Hackett, was a pleasure to work with. He was helpful and offered practical advice and feedback throughout my internship. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him and I will miss out on post-evaluation chats. He is an excellent supervisor and his feedback provided me with valuable information and tips for my praxis moving forward.â€
Joe was truly excellent, and he will be missed. On behalf of the 91ÉçÇø Faculty of Education, we send our deepest condolences to Joe’s family, friends, colleagues, and students. May we continue to be inspired and motivated by his memory.
