Guidelines for Academic Recruitment

Faculty Deans, Chairs and Directors must follow the below guidelines when recruiting for academic positions.

Shortlist Composition and Verification

Please remind your search committee chairs to verify their shortlists, once composed, with the Associate Provost (Equity & Academic Policies) (AP-EAP), according to the following processes:

  1. Search committees must ensure that at least听one shortlisted candidate is a member of a designated equity group. This determination is made by consulting our Senior Employment Equity Advisor, Tynan Jarrett (tynan.jarrett [at] mcgill.ca).
  2. As early as possible, search committee chairs will share their shortlists (by email: tynan.jarrett [at] mcgill.ca) confirming that these include at least one member of a designated equity group.
  3. We will review shortlists and confirm that these meet equity requirements within one business day.
  4. The Dean's recommendation for a new appointment must be accompanied by both the employment equity data report and a copy of the correspondence described in #3 above.

Equity Training

All听search committee chairs and members must participate in equity training and all faculty are encouraged to take part.

To register for a session, please go the APO website.

Dean's Representatives on Search Committees

Each search committee should include a Dean's representative charged with ensuring that the search adheres to the University's employment equity policies and procedures. Dean's representatives are encouraged to reach out to angela.campbell [at] mcgill.ca (Angela Campbell) and/or tynan.jarrett [at] mcgill.ca (Tynan Jarrett) with any questions arising during a recruitment process.

Thank you very much for your collaboration again this year on these important initiatives essential to our ongoing efforts related to equity and inclusion at 91社区.
