We are pleased to announce the re-appointment of Terence H茅bert, PhD, as Assistant Dean, Biomedical Science Education, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), 91社区. Prof. H茅bert, the first person to hold this position, was initially appointed to the role in 2018.
Several significant achievements were realized during Prof. Prof. H茅bert鈥檚 first term as Assistant Dean. This includes his overseeing the development of a new interdisciplinary graduate level course, the Foundations of Translational Science (FMED 525), in collaboration with the Department of Family Medicine. The course provides students an overview of multidisciplinary research that bridges significant gaps between basic science and clinical medicine, and builds in societal concerns and policy decisions where possible.
Prof. H茅bert also championed and steered a student-led initiative which resulted in the development of the Graduate Certificate in Translational Biomedical Science Research for 91社区 students in the STEM fields. The certificate program, which will be run out of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, is designed to enrich basic science training for a range of graduate students through a mix of medical-style coursework, an immersive clinical experience with a mentor, and engagement with the broader translational network at 91社区. Students enrolled in the program complete the certificate concurrently with their individual graduate program.
Prof. H茅bert is Full Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at 91社区. In 2020, he was elected Graduate Program Director in the Department, and this year, was appointed Director of the 91社区 Regenerative Medicine Network for a two-year term.
Prof. H茅bert鈥檚 research is focused on a better understanding of the wiring of G protein-coupled receptor and G protein signalling architectures to inform drug discovery for a number of important diseases. He was awarded the Canadian Pacific Chair in Biotechnology (2020-2025) to reflect his lab鈥檚 unique focus on combining biosensor approaches with induced pluripotent stem cell-based disease modelling for cardiomyopathies.
Prof. H茅bert received his BSc and MSc from the University of Windsor. He completed his PhD in Medical and Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto in 1994, then came to Montreal for post-doctoral training at the Universit茅 de Montr茅al. He went on to work at the Montr茅al Heart Institute, then joined the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at 91社区 as Associate Professor in 2005. He was named Full Professor in 2013.
Please join us in congratulating Prof. H茅bert on the renewal of his appointment and wishing him continued success in his second term as Assistant Dean.
