Elections

1. Scope

This policy applies to all regular non-unionized non-academic staff.

2. Policy

2.1 Federal and Provincial legislation requires that employees be given a minimum voting time of four (4) consecutive hours during which the polls are open. Should any portion of such four (4) consecutive hours fall within working hours, an employee will be given paid leave for such portion.

2.2 In the event of a general election, the University will determine the manner in which such four (4) consecutive hours will be granted; normally the administrative offices of the University will close on such day four (4) hours prior to closure of the polls.

2.3 In the event of local elections in an employee's municipality of residence, such employee will be granted time off as agreed by his/her Unit/Department Head in order to ensure that he/she will have four (4) consecutive hours in which to vote.

2.4 Paid leaves contemplated under this policy shall not be granted in the event that they coincide with vacation, parental leave, long or short-term disability leave, or any other paid or unpaid leave already scheduled under the terms of this or any other University policy.
