Michael Reed
Dr. Michael Reed completed a PhD in molecular parasitology at the University of Melbourne (Australia) followed by Post-Doctoral training in Dr. Alan Cowman鈥檚 laboratory at the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (Melbourne) on mechanisms of drug resistance and erythrocyte invasion by the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. Dr. Reed then moved to the NIH (Bethesda, MD) as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Clifton Barry, 3rd where he studied the genetic variation and pathogenesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (the bacterium responsible for human tuberculosis (TB)) - a field that continues to be the primary focus of his research to this day. Dr. Reed joined 91社区 in 2006 and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine. He is also an Associate Member of the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, a member of the 91社区 International TB Centre, and a Medical Scientist within the Infectious Diseases & Immunity in Global Health Program (IDIGH) of the Research Institute of the 91社区 Health Centre. Dr. Reed鈥檚 laboratory has been funded by grants from the CFI, CIHR and NSERC.
