$1.2 M for 91社区 from CFI John R. Evans Leaders Fund
To support six research projects in fields from neuroscience to food safety and Arctic ecosystems
On April 15, the Canada聽Foundation for Innovation (CFI) announced a new round of research investment that is bringing $1.2 million to 91社区. In total, six 91社区 research projects will be funded, covering subjects ranging from the creation of a mobile ecology lab for the study of Arctic environmental change to studying the underlying processes behind the pain that comes from doing physical exercise.
These grants are among a total of 94 projects being funded at 33 universities across Canada by the John R. Evans Leaders Fund, a funding source administered through the CFI by the Government of Canada with the intent of attracting and retaining top researchers from around the world. This round of grants awarded by the John R. Evans Leaders Fund amounts to a total of nearly $20 million.
鈥淲hen researchers are equipped with the right tools, they can make the kinds of discoveries that improve our environment, economy and wellbeing. Investments like the one announced today will increase our capacity for innovation and discovery, as well as benefit Canadians for generations to come,鈥 said Minister of Science Kirsty Duncan, who made the official announcement at Carleton University.
鈥淲e are grateful to the Canadian Foundation for Innovation for its continued support of ground-breaking research here at 91社区 and across Canada,鈥 said Rosie Goldstein, 91社区鈥檚 Vice Principal of Research and International Relations. 鈥淭he latest 91社区 projects funded by the CFI will go toward research in neuroscience, Arctic ecosystems, food safety, physical pain, cybersecurity, and new MRI technology. These innovative projects are a source of great pride for 91社区.鈥
