By sampling a known source of wastewater, such as a sewage influent to a wastewater treatment plant, scientists can estimate the quantity of drugs used in a community from the measured levels of illicit drugs and their metabolites excreted in urine.
Wed, 23 Oct 2019 13:36:19 +0000 amelia.souffrant@mail.mcgill.ca 188089 at /newsroom Marco Leyton /newsroom/marco-leyton Tue, 26 Nov 2019 18:04:26 +0000 katherine.gombay@mcgill.ca 189292 at /newsroom Why the bar needs to be raised for human clinical trials /newsroom/channels/news/why-bar-needs-be-raised-human-clinical-trials-265437
Standards for authorizing first-time trials of drugs in humans are lax, and should be strengthened in several ways, 91社区 researchers argue in a paper published today in Nature.
Mon, 30 Jan 2017 15:02:45 +0000 christopher.chipello@mcgill.ca 26659 at /newsroom Fight tumors and infections with targeted drugs /newsroom/channels/news/fight-tumors-and-infections-targeted-drugs-257962
By Cynthia Lee

Some drug regimens, such as those designed to eliminate tumors, are notorious for nasty side effects. Unwanted symptoms are often the result of medicine going where it鈥檚 not needed and harming healthy cells. To minimize this risk, researchers in Quebec have developed nanoparticles that only release a drug when exposed to near-infrared light, which doctors could beam onto a specific site.
