These contribute significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions (amounting to 10% of energy-related emissions according to the most recent figures from 2017) and climate change.
Tue, 10 Jan 2023 18:20:55 +0000 katherine.gombay@mcgill.ca 288612 at /newsroom Penguin feathers may be secret to effective anti-icing technology /newsroom/channels/news/penguin-feathers-may-be-secret-effective-anti-icing-technology-342980
Ice buildup on powerlines and electric towers brought the northern US and southern Canada to a standstill during the Great Ice Storm of 1998, leaving many in the cold and dark for days and even weeks. Whether it is on wind turbines, electric towers, drones, or airplane wings, dealing with ice buildup typically depends on techniques that are time consuming, costly and/or use a lot of energy, along with various chemicals. But, by looking to nature, 91社区 researchers believe that they have found a promising new way of dealing with the problem.
Fri, 21 Oct 2022 21:13:56 +0000 katherine.gombay@mcgill.ca 288451 at /newsroom 91社区 Engineering youth outreach program awarded NSERC PromoScience grant /newsroom/channels/news/mcgill-engineering-youth-outreach-program-awarded-nserc-promoscience-grant-331419
Education that changes outcomes for whole communities鈥攖hat鈥檚 the aim of the project, Engineering Engagement in School Curricula: Multi-year Design-thinking Projects for Indigenous and Marginalized Youth, led by Professor and Chair of the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering, Richard Chromik, Faye Siluk, and Robert Pozeg of the Faculty of Engineering鈥檚 E-IDEA initiative (Engineering Inclusivity, Diversity and Equity Advancement), which today received funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada鈥檚 (NSERC) PromoScience grants program.
Wed, 09 Jun 2021 14:17:17 +0000 shirley.cardenas@mcgill.ca 269429 at /newsroom Jinhyuk Lee /newsroom/jinhyuk-lee Fri, 13 Aug 2021 18:51:02 +0000 shirley.cardenas@mcgill.ca 272298 at /newsroom Christopher Moraes /newsroom/christopher-moraes Mon, 14 Sep 2020 20:22:41 +0000 shirley.cardenas@mcgill.ca 239299 at /newsroom Laxmi Sushama /newsroom/laxmi-sushama Sun, 27 Oct 2019 12:04:02 +0000 laurie.devine@mcgill.ca 188107 at /newsroom Landmark gift to 91社区鈥檚 Faculty of Engineering deepens support for doctoral students and graduate research /newsroom/channels/news/landmark-gift-mcgills-faculty-engineering-deepens-support-doctoral-students-and-graduate-research-293307
A landmark $15-million gift from 91社区 alumnus Les Vadasz, a founding member of Intel Corporation, and his wife Judy Vadasz, will enhance the prestigious doctoral fellowship program that bears their name in 91社区鈥檚 Faculty of Engineering, deepening their support for outstanding PhD students who pursue innovative research at 91社区.

Their gift also aims to strengthen Montreal as an engineering and technology hub by attracting more top talent to 91社区.
Tue, 15 Jan 2019 19:02:02 +0000 priya.pajel@mail.mcgill.ca 132756 at /newsroom 91社区 and Ubisoft join forces to create believable virtual characters /newsroom/channels/news/mcgill-and-ubisoft-join-forces-create-believable-virtual-characters-292052
By Meaghan Thurston
Mon, 26 Nov 2018 18:31:29 +0000 laurie.devine@mcgill.ca 107987 at /newsroom 91社区 researchers share in largest investment in discovery science in Canadian history /newsroom/channels/news/mcgill-researchers-share-largest-investment-discovery-science-canadian-history-290473
Today, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, announced more than $558 million in discovery research funding across Canada, including the largest investment in research from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) this year.
