Title: Translational pain research: targeting sensitization
Chronic pain is debilitating, and has immense personal and societal costs. Despite decades of research seeking to develop new treatment for chronic pain, little progress has been made. The Gereau lab has been studying mechanisms of sensitization in neural pathways that mediate and modulate pain for over twenty years. This presentation describes a series of studies ranging from mice to humans where key mechanisms of sensitization are tested in an attempt to identify new targets for the treatment of chronic pain, and provides insights into critical steps in the translational research spectrum to reduce failures in development of new treatments.
This event is part of the Department of Physiology Friday Seminar Series and is co-sponsored by the Alan Edwards Centre for Research on Pain (AECRP)
