Dr. Frasure-Smith received a PhD in Sociology from Johns Hopkins University and completed an NIMH postdoctoral fellowship in psychology at 91社区. She holds the rank of Professor of psychiatry at 91社区 with a cross-appointment at 91社区鈥檚 Ingram School of Nursing. She is also an associated Professor (professeure associ茅e) of psychiatry at the University of Montreal, a researcher at the Centre h么spitalier de l鈥橴niversit茅 de Montr茅al (CHUM), and Senior Research Associate at the Montreal Heart Institute. She is a past President of the American Psychosomatic Society. Her research program, carried out in conjunction with psychiatrists, cardiologists and nurses at 91社区, the Universit茅 de Montr茅al and the Montreal Heart Institute, has been concerned with assessing the importance of psychological and social variables in the development and prognosis of cardiovascular disease; exploring physiological and behavioural mechanisms linking psychological and social variables with cardiovascular disease; and developing and evaluating interventions to change the impact of psychological and social variables in cardiovascular disease. Along with her colleague, Dr. Fran莽ois Lesp茅rance, Dr. Frasure-Smith is known internationally for bringing depression to the forefront of behavioural cardiology.
