Areas of expertise:
We try to understand the connections between history, genetic diversity, biology, and disease. We do this through creative math and the analysis of large-scale datasets. Recently, we have been working on reconstructing histories of populations with very diverse genetic heritage, including Hispanic/Latinos and African-Americans, and found that some elegant mathematical models enabled us to identify demographic forces that shape genomic diversity. We are also interested in developing mathematical models to improve our understanding of mutation, selection, and tumor evolution.
