Program Requirements
Business Valuations play an integral role in mergers and acquisitions, corporate tax planning, litigation, quantification of damages, venture capital, and private equity. The objective of this program is to provide a sound working knowledge of business valuation theory and practice for those interested in becoming Chartered Business Valuators. This program also meets the educational requirements of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators (CICBV) and prepares students to take the CICBV Membership Qualification Exam.

CBUS 230 Level 1 鈥 Introductory Business Valuation (6.5 CE units)
Overview
Business : This course provides an introduction to business and securities valuations as an area of specialized practice. The focus is placed on the role of the Business Valuator, valuation terminology and principles, professional standards and practice issues, approaches to business value determinations, and the earnings-based valuation methodologies.

CBUS 231 Level 2 - Intermediate Business Valuation (6.5 CE units)
Overview
Business : This course deals with tax-related valuation issues. Emphasis is placed on the fundamental principles of the Canadian tax system, impact of taxation on an enterprise, comparable company multiples such as key valuator tools, adjusted book value method, and corporate law concerns relevant to the valuation process.

CBUS 232 Level 3 鈥 Advanced Business Valuation (6.5 CE units)
Overview
Business : This course builds on the Introductory and Intermediate Business Valuation courses and focuses on more sophisticated valuations techniques such as valuation of various classes of shares, financial instruments, valuation of start-ups and high-tech companies, measurement of Fair Value in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (鈥淚FRS鈥), contingent consideration, tax loss carry forwards, real property (land and buildings) and equipment.

CBUS 233 Level 4 鈥 Special Topics in Business Valuation (6.5 CE units)
Overview
Business : The objective of this course is to expose students to a number of additional specialized topics, each of which significantly impacts Chartered Business Valuators in real-world practice. Emphasis is placed on such areas as law, corporate reorganizations, quantification of damages and expert witness scenarios, earn-outs, taxation of damage awards; employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs) and public company matters.

Business : This course provides a comprehensive overview of litigation matters as they relate to the valuation of businesses and/or economic damages. Emphasis is placed on quantification and valuation approaches used in such situations as personal injury and wrongful death, matrimonial disputes, intellectual property damages, construction losses, business interruption and expropriation.

Overview
Business : This course explores issues and techniques relevant to financing private companies. Focus is placed on business planning and financial modeling, positioning the business for financing, structuring, raising capital, negotiations and loan agreements. Course assignments will provide students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge to realistic cases to reinforce practical skills.

CBUS 236 Introduction to Valuation for Financial Reporting (6 CE units)
Overview
Business : This course expands on the concepts covered in the Advanced Business Valuation course and focuses on the international financial reporting standards (鈥淚FRS鈥) from a public company perspective. Key aspects of the purchase price allocation process; introduction to the valuation of investment entities and the relevant accounting standards; impairment test relating to goodwill and intangible assets; the role of a valuator in an audit engagement.

Overview
Business : The objective is to help learners develop effective interpersonal skills. Emphasis is placed on the following areas: communication styles, emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, working with teams and influencing others, workplace diversity and intercultural communication, presentation skills, and facilitation skills. As a result of acquiring and developing these interpersonal skills, learners can increase their overall professional effectiveness.

Overview
Communication (CCE) : Concepts and principles of effective written communication: audience, purpose, organization, and style. Emphasis on business documents commonly produced by professionals (e.g., project and business plans, reports, status updates, proposals, analyses). Pre-writing and re-writing processes, including self-editing to enhance clarity, conciseness, and coherence. Audio-recorded instructor feedback.
