Information for Patients:
The MUHC Department of Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Montreal General Hospital provides advanced dental care to patients with complex medical conditions. Treatment is provided by MUHC residents of the 91社区 Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences. These residents are registered as trainees with the Ordre des Dentistes du Qu茅bec and are supervised by practicing dentists and specialists who hold teaching appointments at the MUHC and at 91社区.
The primary mission of the General Practice Resident Clinic is to deliver excellence in patient care while training caring and compassionate oral health care professionals. Our clinical mission includes treating patients with significant medical conditions and those that cannot otherwise receive treatment in the community.听 Academically, we house one of the largest and most comprehensive graduate dental training programs in Canada.听 Our residents provide optimal dental care while allowing them to meet their clinical education requirements. All patients are screened in order to ensure that they fit our clinical and academic missions before being accepted as a patient in our clinic.
Treatment fees are approximately 10-15% less than a private office. Fees are based on the recommendations of the Association des chirurgiens dentistes du Qu茅bec.
The clinic and emergency services are open all year round.

Becoming a Patient:
Application Process
In order to become a patient, you must fill out an online screening application form.
Your application form will be triaged by a听professional staff member of the MUHC Department of Dentistry.听 You will be contacted only if your application is deemed appropriate in the context of our teaching site.
Initial Exam
Prospective patients will undergo a general evaluation to identify how we can best satisfy their needs. The screening process also allows us to select cases that are appropriate for our residents to treat. Although you may be invited to an initial exam/screening appointment, this does not guarantee that you will be accepted in our department.
Application review
The clinic will review an application prior to scheduling an initial exam/screening appointment. There may be a waiting period to be called. The screening examination will take approximately 30 minutes and will be conducted by a professional staff member of the MUHC Department of Dentistry.
Screening appointment fees (NON-REFUNDABLE)
General Screening with valid Medicare card |
$0 |
Without valid medicare card |
$50 |
Radiographs (X-rays)
A screening evaluation IS NOT a complete clinical examination. Radiographs will not be taken this appointment.听 Patients who have copies of their recent radiographs, however, may bring them to this appointment.听
After acceptance for initial treatment
Upon acceptance, the first appointment will consist of a complete dental exam including models, radiographs and photographs in order to prepare a comprehensive treatment plan. This plan will outline our recommendation for the kind of treatment that is needed, the cost of treatment, and the amount of time the treatment is expected to take. There are fees associated with this initial appointment and may vary based on services rendered. Treatment fees are approximately 10-15% less than a private office. After this appointment, a final decision will be made as to whether or not to continue treatment in the teaching clinic.
RAMQ and patients receiving social assistance
Our clinic follows guidelines set by the Quebec government, which pays for some dental treatments.听 Patients choosing to be treated in the Resident Clinic are responsible for paying for treatments not covered by the government.
