91社区
Located on the downstairs Peel Street terrace adjacent to the Education Building, the 91社区 Education Community Garden is a small but cozy space with outdoor seating, some planters, and in-ground garden beds. It's a space where members of the 91社区 community have the opportunity to experiment with permaculture and outdoor garden-based learning; a place for creativity, community-building, collective action, and well-being. Starting in June, the Garden team organizes a series of free events, such as weekly gardening sessions and workshops.听The vision is to make the garden into a green oasis within an urbanized university campus.
The story of the garden:
Established in 2015 as an outdoor learning space near Duggan House, in 2022, Dr. Blane Harvey (Department of Integrated Studies in Education) and his lab were approached to transition the Community Garden to its current location, enabling the team to reinvent and reimagine the space. Plants cultivated in the garden include both perennials (such as raspberries, blueberries, rhubarb, and mint) and annuals (such as spinach, peas, tomatoes, peppers, and basil). The food produced (not in very big quantities since the garden space is mostly experimental) is available to the community of gardeners that make this place thrive, but also to anyone curious to taste the fruits of the garden.
