What is Micro-ExP?Ìý

Micro-ExP is a Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) program that connects students with organizations for professional development. It bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world work experience, helping students gain valuable skills and insights from professionals and organizations, which significantly impacts their career growth.

Partners appreciate how easy it is to participate and the benefits:

  • Short-term commitment of a few hours over the course of 1 week
  • Fully remote, projects/placements customizable to your business needs
  • Access to work with top students with fresh perspectives
  • You get to build your talent pipeline and get a first look at potential candidates while developing your brand as an employer of choice
  • Employers consistently praiseÌýthe program for the high-quality work delivered by 91ÉçÇø students

How does it work?

As a partner, you can host the following options:

  • Micro-Project. 100% remoteÌý12Ìýhours max/student
  • Micro-Placement. On-site/hybridÌý10-15 hours max/student

What kind of projects/placements are students expecting to gain experience with?

  • Communications, marketing, design, grant writing, engineering, data science, product, research, etc. are all topics of interest.ÌýSince in most cases we can’t have students sign NDA’s however, certain domains lend themselves better to micro experiencesÌýthan others.

What kind of students take part in this program? What kind of projects can we expect to give to them?

  • Undergrad and graduate across all disciplines – we operate on the assumption that the students selecting a given project are motivated to gain that experience and do our best to match them accordingly.

How many students should we expect?

  • Anywhere from 1 – 4Ìýstudents for each project/placement.
    • Since each student commits 12hrs max to their project, team-based projects can work well to increase max hours and project scope.

How much guidance/supervision is required for each student?

  • The work required on the employer side is outlined here:
    • Write project posting(s) key tasks/deliverables/skills/number of students
    • Employer and Student Introductions: Each project has a key contact/supervisor – WeÌýsend this contact their student names/emails and they send a meeting invite to their students.
    • Project Kick-off meeting to review the project objectives and provide access to any tools/resources they need to complete it
    • Mid-week checkpoint meeting is optional - Students may reach out during the week with burning questions over email
    • Students submit deliverables at the end of the weekÌý
    • Key contact confirms receipt and provides feedbackÌý
