Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Occupational Health and Public Health
Epidemiology and Biostatistics are the basic sciences for most听health related quantitative research conducted on groups of individuals.听 Hence, much of clinical research, public and population health research, health services research and many other areas of health and social research use the principles, concepts and methods of epidemiology and biostatistics to generate information and knowledge.听 This knowledge is then used for clinical practice through evidence-based medicine, for clinical prevention, for health care organization and delivery and for public health practice.
Occupational Health is an applied discipline which uses a variety of tools (toxicology, hygiene, exposure assessment, ergonomics, engineering, etc.) to identify occupational hazards and to听reduce, prevent or remove exposure to hazards, thereby maintaining听optimal health of workers.
Public Health is an applied discipline which uses societal resources to prevent diseases and promote health at the population level.听
