      • LING 210 Introduction to Speech Science 鈥 1 position at 120 hours
      • LING 211 Intro to Indigenous Languages 鈥 1 position at 120 hours
      • LING 260 Meaning in Language - 1 position at 120 hours
      • LING 330 Phonetics - 1 position at 120 hours
      • LING 345 From Natural Language to Data Science - 1 position at 120 hours
      • LING 355 Language Acquisition 1 - 1 position at 120 hours
      • LING 371 Syntax 1 - 1 position at 120 hours

      *Hours are dependent on course enrolment


      Position Summary:听 Prepare and teach conferences with small groups of students, attend TA meetings, grade assignments, midterms and final exams, hold office hours. Other tasks associated with the position/course.

      Qualifications:听Applicants must be graduate students in good standing in the Department of Linguistics at 91社区. Applicants require a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the first-level core courses in Linguistics (Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Syntax and Semantics).

      Hourly Salary: $36.25

      Position Start Date: January 3, 2025
      Position End Date: May 10, 2025

      Visitors

      Researchers

      The Department of Linguistics is pleased to accept applications of researchers who wish to stay in the Department as visiting researchers. A visiting researcher holds a PhD degree, normally holds a permanent position elsewhere, and normally stays in the Department for a maximum of one year. Given limited resources, including limited availability of space and administrative support, the Department is only able to accommodate a small number of visiting researchers each year. Visiting researchers are offered a desk in a shared office as well as access to the 91社区 library and email. Unfortunately, the Department is unable to provide visiting researchers with financial support.

      How To Apply

      Before submitting an application, prospective visiting researchers should have contacted a faculty member in the Department who has agreed to serve as a sponsor.

      Applications should include:

      1. A statement of purpose indicating the beginning and ending dates of the visit, the research goals for the visit, as well as the relation of the proposed research to the research of the sponsoring faculty member
      2. A Curriculum Vitae
      3. A writing sample written in English (normally a recent published paper).

      The Department may also request letters of recommendation. Applications should be submitted (preferably by email in electronic format) to:

      Application Deadlines

      Applications should be submitted at least 4 to 6 months before the intended start date of the visit. In particular, visiting researcher applications are due on March 1st for visits beginning the following Fall Term (which starts in September) and July 1st for visits beginning the following Winter Term (which starts in January). Acceptance decisions are communicated to applicants shortly after these deadlines.

      Graduate Students

      The Department of Linguistics is pleased to accept applications of graduate students who wish to stay in the Department as visiting graduate students. Visiting graduate students are registered in a graduate degree program at another university, and their research interests must connect well to those of the Department.

      For different categories for visiting the Department as a graduate student, please see the Visiting, Exchange and Special Students page on 91社区's听Future Graduate Students website.听Please note that the Department does not offer Special Student admission at the graduate level.

      Given limited resources, including limited availability of space and administrative support, the Department is only able to accommodate a small number of visiting students each year. Visiting students are offered shared office space if possible, as well as access to the 91社区 library and email. Unfortunately, the Department is unable to provide visiting students with financial support.

      How To Apply

      Before submitting an application, prospective visiting graduate students should have contacted a faculty member in the Department who has agreed to serve as a supervisor. Depending on which category of visiting graduate student you are applying to be, your applications may be required to include all or some of the following documents:

      1. University Transcripts (official or unofficial)
      2. Two Letters of Recommendation
      3. A statement of purpose describing your research interests, their relation to the interests of the Department, the research goals of your visit, and the beginning and ending dates of the visit
      4. Writing Sample
      5. Proof of Proficiency in English (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS) if applicable.

      Any documents in languages other than English or French must be accompanied by an English translation. Applications should be submitted (preferably by email in electronic format) to:
