Radiation Oncology

The delivery of radiotherapy treatment to cancer patients requires the coordinated efforts of a team of health care professionals including radiation oncologists, radiation technologists, medical physicists, medical dosimetrists and radiation oncology nurses.

The mission of the Division of Radiation Oncology is to provide excellence in clinical care to our patients with individualized quality patient care using cutting-edge technology and equipment. The Division has been at the forefront of technology assessment and development and is a world leader in areas such as high dose rate brachytherapy, stereotactic radiation, and conformal and intensity modulated treatment. Members of the Division of Radiation Oncology offer their clinical expertise in radiation treatment either at the MUHC-Glen Site or the聽Jewish General Hospital.聽

Faculty members of the Division developed a multidisciplinary program for both fundamental lab-based and translational research activities. With the overarching goal to improve clinical outcomes for patients, lab-based research themes are focused on testing different radiation regimens and treatment modalities, new molecular-targeted drugs such as radiosensitizers, investigating the mechanisms of radioresistance and radiation-induced toxicities, and screening for biomarkers of response to radiation therapy and combined modality therapies. The objectives of this research program fulfill the academic mission to mentor graduate students and clinical fellows with a new vision to translate research findings from in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical studies to fully implementing clinical trials. The projects have fostered different collaborations with other scientists and clinical investigators in other Departments of 91社区, at the provincial level and across Canada.

Training the next generation of radiation oncologists is also a key mandate of the Division of Radiation Oncology and to this end offers a Radiation Oncology Residency Training Program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well a number of Fellowship programs.聽聽
