Service Description
The oncology and palliative care unit
This 22-bed unit includes 6 beds dedicated to palliative care patients. Its interdisciplinary team of oncologists, palliative care physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and other health professionals offers care to patients on the unit as
well as through day-clinic and consultation services. The palliative care team provides supportive care to patients with advanced, life-limiting illness with the goal of relieving pain and suffering and helping patients and their families achieve the best possible quality of life through all stages of illness.
The palliative care consultation service
The palliative care team also provides consultations for seriously ill patients in the rest of the hospital and works closely with a local CSSS to ensure best possible continuity of care. The team offers its services through the Oncology Day Center and focuses on finding ways to improve quality of life for patients and assessing home situations to improve wellbeing at home for patients and their family.
