What GPA scale does 91ÉçÇø use?

91ÉçÇø uses a 4.0 GPA scale. If your university uses a different scale, it will be converted during the application evaluation process.

How do I submit my transcript?

  • Unofficial, electronic copies of your transcript can be submitted to the Principal Investigator you are applying to work with.
  • Your full name must appear on all uploaded documents.
  • Transcripts in languages other than English or French must be accompanied by an English or French translation provided by the institution issuing the transcript, or by a certified translator. A copy in the original language is also required; an English or French translation alone is not sufficient.
  • If not on the transcript, the grading scale must also be provided (usually found on the reverse).

How much will GPA weigh in the selection of awardees?

  • GPA is only one element of an application that will be taken into consideration. We understand that GPA does not represent the strength of a student as whole; hence, equal or greater value will be placed on the information provided by students in the application form.
  • If there are extenuating circumstances that have affected your GPA at any point, please feel free to elaborate in your personal responses on the application form.

How do I submit my reference letter?

  • Letters of reference are not required for your MBRA application, but if you want to include them please have your reference letters sent to: sbms.medicine [at] mcgill.ca (subject: Reference%20letter%20-%20MBRA%20program)
  • Your letters must be submitted by your reference (you cannot send them on their behalf).
  • Please make sure your reference clearly states on whose behalf they are writing.
  • References are not mandatory, but if included they should be meaningful. A TA would not be an appropriate reference, but a previous employer who can attest to your strengths could be.

Can I take courses at the same time?

The MBRA research positions are 35 hours a week and considered full-time job. Additional coursework is not expected, and should be discussed with potential supervisors at the time of the interview.

How many people will be accepted into the program?

We are expecting a cohort of approximately 10-20 people for the summer 2024.

Can I apply if I am a foreign student on a student visa?

Visa’s must be valid and allow you to work at university that is not your primary university of study. Please verify your eligibility before submitting your application.

If I am planning on graduating in the fall of 2023, am I still eligible?

The program is primarily aimed at students who will be entering their final year of studies in the fall of 2024 and planning on applying to graduate school for the winter or fall of 2025. You are considered eligible for the MBRA if you are returning to school, even if it is only for one semester.

Is it necessary that I speak French?

No, it is not necessary. Instruction in the School of Biomedical Sciences is carried out in English. However, applications in French will be accepted.

Can 2nd year undergraduate students apply?

Due to the highly competitive nature of the program, students will only be accepted if they are in the penultimate year of their studies.ÌýÌý

When does the program start?

Students will be expected to be present, in-person, in Montreal in on May 6th, 2024.
