Returning Students

Returning Students

Registration for undergraduates will take place between Thursday, April 7 and Sunday, August 14, 2016.

Registration will open in the following order:

Opening Registration Dates
Year 3 and Year 4 students: Thursday, April 7
Year 2 students: Friday, April 8
All other returning students: Monday, April 11
On each of these days, registration is phased in over the morning: 9:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 10:00 a.m. Please see Important Dates for details.

Some faculties and departments set their own schedules for advising and registration as of these dates. Further information is available at faculty student affairs offices and websites. For more information, see www.mcgill.ca/students/advising/advisordirectory.

To successfully complete registration, you must have an acceptable Academic Standing from the previous session and have paid any outstanding fees and/or fines.

Note for the Faculty of Law: In order to facilitate access to small enrolment courses and ensure equity among students, registration priorities are programmed in Minerva. These priorities, established after consultation between the Faculty and the Law Students Association, are made on a rolling basis by class year (i.e., fourth-year students register first). Priority registration dates are established by the Student Affairs Office and posted at www.mcgill.ca/law-studies/courses-registration-exams.
Note for Health Sciences: The information contained in this section applies to the University in general; students are advised to consult the appropriate faculty or school section for academic policies and regulations specific to their programs.
Note for Medicine: U3 medical students need to have registered prior to July 23, 2016 (Fall term begins with clinical rotations). U4 medical students need to have registered prior to July 1, 2016 (Fall term begins with clinical rotations).
Note for Medicine and Dentistry: U2 medical and dental students need to have registered prior to August 14, 2016 (Fall term begins with clinical rotations).

Newly Admitted Students Entering in September 2016

Registration will take place between Monday, June 13 and Sunday, August 14, 2016.

Registration will open in the following order:

Monday, June 13: registration opens for students admitted from Quebec CEGEPs.

Monday, June 20: registration opens for students whose highest level of education prior to registering at 91ÉçÇø is a French Baccalaureate, International Baccalaureate, or at least one year of university, or who were admitted on the basis of Advanced Levels, CAPE, or other academic qualifications, which provides for Advanced Standing credit, and who therefore have a classification of Year 1 (U1) or higher.

Tuesday, June 21: registration opens for students whose highest level of education prior to registering at 91ÉçÇø is high school, and who have been admitted to a classification of Year 0 (U0) to the following faculties/schools/degrees: Arts (including Schools of Information Studies, Religious Studies, and Social Work), B.A.&Sc., Education, Management, and Music.

Wednesday, June 22: registration opens for students whose highest level of education prior to registering at 91ÉçÇø is high school, and who have been admitted to a classification of Year 0 (U0) to the following faculties/schools: Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Engineering (including Architecture), Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Science.

If you are a newly admitted student in September 2016 and you want to register for courses in the Summer of 2016, you can do so on Minerva. Please refer to Summer Studies for further information, or see www.mcgill.ca/summer.

Note for the Faculty of Law: Tuesday, July 5: registration opens for newly admitted students. As of this date, students must add their registration confirmation course via Minerva; you can find instructions on how to use Minerva in your Orientation package. All incoming students will be assigned a specific group number for their First Year courses. Students will receive their group number by email in July 2016 and will then be assigned to certain course sections on the basis of their group number. Course registration for Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 will open on Minerva on Monday, August 1, at 9:00 a.m.
Note for Medicine and Dentistry: You must register in all courses no later than August 14 and attend the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry mandatory orientation & registration session, where your course registration can be confirmed. The mandatory session is held from Tuesday, August 23 to Thursday, August 25, 2016. Registration is in the 3rd-floor Life Science Library of the McIntyre Medical Sciences Building.

Registration will take place between Thursday, December 1, 2016, and Wednesday, January 4, 2017.

Some faculties and departments require that you meet with an adviser before registration and set specific dates for advising and registration within these dates. Please refer to the faculty sections of this publication, as well as the Welcome to 91ÉçÇø publication or website, or the Essential Guide for New Students, Macdonald Campus (see www.mcgill.ca/macdonald/studentinfo), which are included with your acceptance package.

Note for Dentistry: Students accepted into the Degree Completion Program will begin classes the first week of December 2016.
Note for the Faculty of Law: There is no Winter term admission to the Faculty of Law.

Late Registration

Late Registration

If you fail to register during the normal registration period, you can register within the period designated by the University for late registration with the payment of a late registration fee. For late registration fees, see Late Registration and Course Change Charges on the Student Accounts website at: www.mcgill.ca/student-accounts/tuition-fees/non-tuition-charges/other.

Returning Students: You may register late via Minerva from Monday, August 15 until and including Tuesday, September 20, 2016.

New and Readmitted Students (Fall): You may register late via Minerva from Monday, August 15 until Tuesday, September 20, 2016.

New and Readmitted Students (Winter): You may register late via Minerva from Thursday, January 5 until Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

Special Late Registration: If you cannot register online during the late registration period, usually due to late admission, you may receive special permission to register in person. This information is included with your letter of acceptance.
