Course Descriptions

The main objective of this program is to develop the professional competencies needed to operate and manage a modern agricultural enterprise. This is achieved through the development of skills over three years where students study a sequence of courses in soil, plant and animal science, engineering and management. We also aim to develop the student’s entrepreneurial skills, personal growth and the ability to adapt to a changing world.

The summer after completing year 1 includes a 10-week internship on an agricultural enterprise other than the home farm or with an agricultural business, where students learn the many skills related to modern commercial agriculture. Students prepare for their internship during both academic semesters of year 1 through two stage courses and two one-week stages.

During the second summer, students are registered in Enterprise Management 1. During this period, the students will be responsible for data collection to be used in the next two Enterprise Management courses and the Nutrient Management Plan course when they return to the campus for the Fall semester. These internships will enable the students to relate their academic work to the reality of farming and the agri-food sector.

General education courses in English, Français, Humanities, Physical Education, one or two complementary subjects (depending on eligibility of the student, please see below), as well as a ministerial language exit exam will entitle the student to receive a Diplôme d'études collégiales (DEC) from the Minister of Education.
