Educational Goals

A: To make our graduates competent in the exercise of their profession.

  1. To develop the professional competencies needed to operate and manage a modern agricultural enterprise. This will be achieved through the development of skills related to new technologies, computer software and robotics, soil and water conservation, sophisticated machinery and equipment, financial management, risk management and decision making skills.
  2. To develop essential skills and attitudes such as a keen sense of observation, environmental awareness, organizational and planning skills, a sense of responsibility, professional ethics, and a greater sense of autonomy.
  3. To develop entrepreneurial skills, personal growth and the ability to adapt to a changing world.
  4. To develop intellectual skills which will allow our graduates to participate in research throughout their professional and personal lives.
  5. To foster the ability to perform the tasks and operations intrinsic to the professions of agricultural producers or farm managers.
  6. To foster the development of leadership for the well being of the Agri-Food sector.

B: To help the student's integration into professional life.

We want our students to be better aware of the context in which agricultural production takes place and to appreciate the point of view of consumers, neighbours and stakeholders.

  1. To foster a better understanding of agricultural issues and to allow graduates to make critical judgments related to agricultural policies, farmer associations, marketing agencies and marketing boards.
  2. To foster and develop the essential human qualities expected of autonomous and responsible citizens as well as leaders of the rural community.
  3. To foster the development of communication skills in a bilingual context.
  4. To help graduates understand the complexity of the world in which they must operate.

C: To foster professional mobility.

  1. To foster the development of a positive attitude with respect to changing technologies and changing consumer habits. Some of the attributes required are autonomy, creativity, resilience, good judgment, an open mind, a keen sense of responsibility and an understanding of self and others.
  2. To provide our graduates with the ability to tailor their educational choices to their personal tastes and skills.

D: To foster a need for continual development of professional knowledge.

  1. To develop our graduate's capacity for independent and ongoing learning.
  2. To foster an understanding of the basic principles upon which the profession of an agricultural producer or farm manager is based.
  3. To develop an appreciation for quality of work, quality of life and respect for the environment.
