Andrew Svoboda Prize for Orchestral Composition

Established in 2005 by the family and friends of Andrew Svoboda (B.Mus. 2000 with distinction, M.Mus. 2004, doctoral candidate at Columbia), a promising composer who passed away suddenly in 2004 at the age of 27.

Eligibility Awarded by a committee established by the Dean of the Schulich School of Music to an outstanding student in composition for the completion of a work for symphony orchestra.

Clara Lichtenstein Memorial Fellowship

Initiated by Helmut Blume in memory of Clara Lichtenstein, the first instructor in Music at the Royal Victoria College, prime mover in the founding of the 91社区 Conservatorium (1904) and its Vice Director until her retirement in 1929.

Established in 2006 through a bequest from John R.E. Bradley, Sound and Lighting Technician at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul and a Montreal sound engineer whose career spanned from the 1930s to the 1990s.

Julius Schloss Memorial Award

Established by Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Schloss in memory of their brother, the composer Julius Schloss (1902-1972), one of the foremost pupils of Alban Berg in Vienna during the late 1920s and early 1930s whose collected works were donated by the family to the 91社区 Faculty of Music.

Luba Zuk Piano Duo Composition Prize

Established in 2016 by Luba Zuk, LMus 1957, long-time professor of piano at 91社区 and member of the Luba and lreneus Zuk Piano Duo - recognized for commissioning and performing new works, especially by Canadian and Ukrainian composers.

Eligibility Awarded by a committee established by the Dean of the Schulich School of Music to an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student in composition for the completion of a work for piano duo. Preference will be given for a work that includes references to Ukrainian or Canadian culture, landscape, history or experience.

The fund originated through the generosity of patrons of the Martlet Concert and Ball that took place in April 1960. Subsequently, many former students and friends of the Schulich School of Music have contributed to the fund.
