Discover the fantastic learning opportunities offered by the Redpath Museum for students and groups of all ages. Explore and learn about the collections guided by our team of museum educators. Our guided tours aim to foster curiosity and passion about the natural and cultural heritage housed at the Redpath Museum.Ìý

Guided Tours are...

  • Appropriate for ages 3 and up and available for all levels, from preschool to college students and adults.
  • Offered in French or English.
  • Available Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • Guided activities are 60 minutes long. Groups are welcome to stay at the museum for an extra hour after the activity to continue exploring.
  • The maximum number of participants varies according to the tour. Please see below for more details.
  • Please note that groups exceedingÌýthe maximum number of participantsÌýwill be divided in halves. The first half of the group will take part in the guided portion of the tour during the first hour and in the independent portion during the following 60 minutes. The second half of the group will start with the self-guided portion of the tour, followed by the guided portion for the last 60 minutes.

Costs

Student or participant

$12 / student or participant (taxes included).

Minimum fee of $150 (taxes included) for groups of less than 13 participants.

Accompanying person

Free for 1 accompanying person perÌý15 participants.

Beyond this ratio, a fee of $12 (taxes included) applies for each additional accompanying person.

Please note that for school groups, the Museum requires the presence of 1 accompanying person per 15 participants.

Themes and Topics

Pre-K to Kindergarten (children 3 to 5 years old)

Storytime and Treasure Hunt

Come to the museum and listen to a fun story animated by one of our educators and then visit the museum, guided by our educators, to discover incredible things around the museum.Ìý

Age:  3 to 5 years oldÌý

Duration:  40 minutes of guided tour activity and 20 colouring session followed by 1 hour of non guided exploration of the Museum.Ìý

Please note that during winter months, groups will need 15 to 20 minutes before the activity to prepare (remove winter jackets and boots), and 15 to 20 minutes after the activity to prepare to leave (put back on winter jackets and boots). In winter months, please plan for 90 minutes total from the time the group arrives to the time the group leaves the museum.Ìý

Materials provided:  A printed guide for the treasure hunt.Ìý

Group Size:  Maximum of 20 participants and two accompanying adults.Ìý

Please note that  groups exceeding the maximum number of participants will be divided in halves. The first half of the group will take part in the guided portion of the tour during the first hour and in the independent portion during the following 60 minutes. The second half of the group will start with the self-guided portion of the tour, followed by the guided portion for the last 60 minutes.Ìý

Elementary School

Dinosaur Detectives (Elementary cycles 1 and 2)

Visit the museum and learn how to recognize dinosaurs and fossils and become a dinosaur detective. Then go around the museum, first accompanied by an educator and then on your own, to try to find dinosaurs using your new skills as a dinosaur detective. You will get a reward if you find all the dinosaurs!Ìý

Age:  6 to 9 years oldÌý

Duration:  1 hour of guided activity, followed by 1 hour of non guided exploration of the Museum.Ìý

Materials provided:  Erasable worksheet with clues to find dinosaurs around the museum and clipboard.Ìý

Group Size:  Maximum of 30 participants and two accompanying adults.Ìý

Evolution and Extinction (Elementary cycle 3)

Come to the museum and learn about the history of life on Earth, from its origins to the age of the great dinosaurs during the Mesozoic to life as we know it today. In this activity, you will explore the evolution of different forms of life and the role that the great extinctions played in shaping life as we see it today.Ìý

Age:  9-12 years oldÌý

Duration:  1 hour of guided activity, followed by 1 hour of non guided exploration of the Museum.Ìý

Group Size:  Maximum of 30 participants and two accompanying adults.Ìý

Evolution and Extinction (Secondary I to IV)

Come to the museum and learn about the history of life on Earth, the geological time scale, and the role that evolution and extinction have played in shaping life as we know it. This program uses dinosaurs as an example of a major extinction.Ìý

Age:  12 to 15 years oldÌý

Duration:  1 hour of guided activity, followed by 1 hour of non guided exploration of the Museum.Ìý

Group Size:  Maximum of 30 participants and two accompanying adults.Ìý

Exploring the Redpath Museum

Come and discover the Redpath Museum's collections as you explore the galleries. Guided by one of our educators, first, you will discover key objects representing the four pillars of the Museum's collections: paleontology, zoology, mineralogy, and world cultures, and then have a longer stop in the museum’s Ancient Egypt exhibition to learn interesting things about this extraordinary culture and about daily life in the Nile Valley thousands of years ago.Ìý

Age:  From 16 years oldÌý

Duration:  1 hour of guided activity, followed by 60 minutes of self-guided visit.Ìý

Group Size:  Maximum of 30 participants and two accompanying adults.Ìý
