Notre-Dame de la Merci Hospital, 667 Gouin Boulevard West, Montreal, Canada.

The Notre-Dame de la Merci Hospital opened in the north of Montreal on Gouin Boulevard next to Bordeaux prison in 1932. It was founded in Old Montreal in 1915 by Achille David as an asylum for the needy (known initially as the Refuge Notre Dame de la Merci). In 1925, leadership of the refuge was assumed by the journalist Olivar Asselin, who sought the help of the Hospitaliers de St-Jean-de-Dieu, a religious order based in France. Brothers from the order moved to Montreal in 1927, after which the refuge began to flourish, so much so that it was decided to build a larger refuge including both Hospital and an adjacent novitiate in Montreal North. In 1936, the Hospital established its own nursing school, which remained open until the 1970s. It is currently known as the Centre d'H茅bergement Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci and provides housing and care for seniors and individuals with loss of autonomy.
