Institut Pasteur.
The primary mission of the Institut Pasteur, as with the聽Alexandra Hospital,聽was to care for patients with infectious disease. Initially, this was mostly tuberculosis. However, other diseases were also treated, particularly polio during several epidemics in Quebec in the 1950-60鈥檚. Unlike the Alexandra Hospital, which was dedicated to children, the Pasteur also cared for adults. In 1934, the Hospital opened on Sherbrooke Street East聽under the management of the Soeurs Grises (Grey Nuns), associated with St Luc Hospital. In 1967, it became a residential and long-term care center: the Centre d鈥橦茅bergement J.-Henri Charboneau (after Dr. Charboneau, the聽Hospital鈥檚 first and long-standing Medical Director).
